Prep Time: 20 Min
– 1 lb little smokies sausage – 1 lb bacon (cut into thirds) – ¾ cup brown sugar – 1 tbsp chili powder (optional) – Toothpick
Cook Time: 20 Min
Ingredients
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup and place a wire rack on top if you have one; this helps crisp the bacon all around.
Take a piece of bacon and wrap it tightly around one little smokie sausage. Secure the bacon with a toothpick to keep it from unraveling during cooking. Repeat for all smokies.
Arrange the bacon-wrapped smokies on the wire rack or directly on the foil-lined baking sheet, leaving some space between each so the heat circulates evenly.
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and chili powder. The sugar will caramelize and give a delicious sweet glaze, while the chili powder adds a subtle spicy kick if you like heat.
Sprinkle the sugar mixture evenly over the smokies, making sure each one has a good coating. The sugar will melt and create a sticky, flavorful crust.
Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes. Check around 20 minutes and rotate the pan if necessary to ensure even cooking. The bacon should be crispy and the sugar nicely caramelized.
1. Once done, remove from the oven and let the smokies cool for 5 minutes before serving. They’re perfect warm as a party appetizer or snack.
